University Park Real Estate

Luxury neighborhoods can be found in almost every city. Colorado Springs is no different with luxurious options on the outskirts of the city every direction. University Park is a special neighborhood in Northeast Colorado Springs. It is one of the only true luxury neighborhoods in the city, not on the outskirts. University Park is named for the proximity to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Part of what makes University Park so special as well is the private access to Austin Bluffs Open Space. This has over 500 acres of hiking trails all with great views of the Rocky Mountains. 

The neighborhood is located at the intersection of N Union Blvd and N Academy Blvd and to the west. The homes in the neighborhood range in size from 2,500 to 5,000 square feet. Built during the 1990s and early 2000s, these homes are still recent and provide great living situations. Each home in the area has great views of Pikes Peak and the front range. These single-family homes have enough space to fit everyone comfortably, and they have great yards out front and back to enjoy the outdoors. The area is very popular with younger people studying at the university, but the luxury neighborhood minimizes the craziness that comes with living close to the university. 

The proximity to UCCS means the area is growing just like the university. There continues to be new development in the area, but since University Park has been a staple in the region since the early 2,000s, no building is done in the neighborhood. The great thing about living in University Park is the growth surrounding the neighborhood only increases the value of the homes. Since UCCS has continued to grow, University Village has grown as well. University Village is a shopping center to the west of the University with a Costco, great dining options such as Hacienda Colorado, shopping options like Kohls and Stein Mart, to other great places like Trader Joes. This area is popular with everyone, and University Park is only 5 minutes away.

History of UCCS

The University of Colorado was originally opened in 1876, the same year Colorado officially became a state. The University offered classes down in Colorado Springs as early as 1920, but it wasn't until 1974 that the Colorado Springs was recognized as a district campus as well as two other campuses in Denver. UCCS grew slowly at first, and it wasn't until 1996 that the first student housing was offered on campus. By then, the area surrounding the campus had developed and that's where many students would stay during the year. In 1997, the school merged with the city-owned Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The University continued to grow. Engineering and Business were the first two majors offered, and they are still the most popular majors. Even so, the school now offers liberal arts and sciences, as well as professional programs in nursing, education, and public affairs. UCCS has been recognized nationally as one of the fastest-growing universities in the last 10 years. The combination of a great education combined with a beautiful place to live, Colorado Springs makes for a great college town. What started as 80 acres has spread to over 400, and the areas around the University are experiencing similar growth. 

Life in University Park

University Park is ideally located for residents. The proximity to shopping and dining as well as open space makes the neighborhood an incredible option. Austin Bluffs Open Space is 5 minutes from the neighborhood, and it has over 500 acres of open space. Hiking, biking, and enjoying the view of Pikes Peak and the front range is always a great idea. Part of the open space is Pulpit Rock. Pulpit Rock is an easy hike, with a little scrambling required to get to the top of the rock, but it is well worth it. On top of the rock, you have an unobstructed view of the mountains. Austin Bluffs Open Space used to be University Park Open Space, Pulpit Rock Park, and Austin Bluffs Park before they all combined to form the open space. Dogs are welcome in the open space as long as they are on leashes. The area is very popular with University Students, as it is the closest open space to UCCS. 

University Village is a shopping center to the west of UCCS. 5-10 minutes away from University Park, it has everything you need in shopping and dining. With over 50 individual stores, you can find everything you need from haircuts and your nails being done to casual dining like Chipotle, as well as fine dining like Il Vicino. Costco and Trader Joes are there to take care of your shopping needs, and Lowes is in the area as well for any hardware or home project you might need. University Village is full of great shops and restaurants, and it is very close to University Park. The proximity to these shops allows great options for anything the family may want.

Attractions Nearby

Colorado Springs is home to great attractions. The beautiful landscape provided by the mountains enhance the activities that residents are able to do. There are many parks, open spaces, and other fun places to go to. Some of the most popular attractions in the city are as follows. 

Rampart Range Recreation Area. This recreation area is home to almost any outdoor activity you will ever want to do. Whether it be hiking, mountain biking, camping, or maybe you want to fish and go four-wheeling, this recreation area has access to it. With beautiful scenery and full forests, this beautiful area is home to not only fun adventures but beautiful and peaceful times. Garden of the Gods Park. This world-famous park is located about 15 minutes away from University Park, and it is well worth the trip. The beautiful sandstone rock and the incredible formations it makes provides a beautiful backdrop for the city. With Pikes Peak right behind the park, it is one of the most pristine views in the state. 

Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel. The most visited man-made tourist attraction in Colorado is the beautiful chapel on the United States Air Force Academy's Campus

Cheyenne Mountain State Park. With many outdoor activities to partake in, Cheyenne Mountain State Park is fun for the whole family. You can bring your dog to hike or run, you can mountain bike, there is an archery range, and you can even bring your RV. 

The Broadmoor resort. A 20-minute drive from University Park, this five star five diamond resort is world-famous. With a golf course that has hosted the US Senior Open and the Womens US Open, there is a sense of prestige and history the moment you walk on the grounds. With world-class dining options and incredible views of the front range, spending time at the Broadmoor resort is an incredible experience. You can spend an entire day at the resort, and you will still not be close to doing everything you can.  

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. This family-friendly place is a great time to spend with the kids or anyone for that matter. Only 20 minutes from University Park and very close to the Broadmoor, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is home to an abundance of animals. With gorillas, lions, elephants, and even a rhino, everyone in the family can spot their favorite animal. Not only that, the zoo has some of the best views of the city of Colorado Springs. You can see the Black Forest from the zoo, and you can witness the vastness of the second-largest city in the state. 

Will Rogers Shrine sits above the Cheyenne Mountain zoo and provides great views of the north back towards Black Forest, Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, and out into the Eastern Plains. Visiting this shrine provides a little history and incredible views for whoever ventures up the mountain to get there.
