History of Gold Hill Mesa
The Golden Cycle Mill processed more gold than any other mill worldwide. The mill was built in Colorado Springs to process gold from the Colorado Gold Rush. At the height of the productivity, it processed 1,500 tons of ore per day from the Cripple Creek area. The mill continued to operate until 1948 when World War II forced the operators to help with the war effort. The mill represented an entrepreneurial spirit for the area as well as one of the early successes of Colorado Springs. The mill stopped operating after it had processed an estimated 483,771 pounds of gold, which made it the mill that processed the most gold in the world. Until Gold Hill Mesa began to build homes on the site, it went untouched for over 50 years. Today, the smokestack of the mill still stands as a representation of what was here before. The Gold Hill Mesa community continues the upkeep of the smokestack and plans to build a museum commemorating the history of the area surrounding the smokestack in the coming years.
Living in Gold Hill Mesa has an "Old World" charm not found in other subdivisions in the city. The history of the area makes it an interesting place to live. There are open spaces giving residents less of a feel of living in a neighborhood and more of an outdoor community feel. Parks, walking paths, and open space line every area of the neighborhood giving residents space to enjoy the beautiful location they are in. The community utilizes four different builders, each with their own style and sizes of homes. This creates a cool feature of the neighborhood with different demographics being targeted for the same neighborhood. Smaller, cheaper homes and large custom homes are all close to each other, wanting to attract different people to the area. The goal of Gold Hill Mesa is to reimagine your dream home, and instead of going for an over-the-top luxurious home with acres of space, think of a home with low-maintenance where you can spend more time with your family and relax on the front porch. Gold Hill Mesa wants to rethink how dream homes can become a reality. It becomes less about the home and more about what you want to do with your time while you live there. Find time to exercise, take a walk, or just relax. Gold Hill Mesa has a community built on the idea that you need to take a step back from the busy life we are all living and enjoy where we are.
