Colorado Springs is home to a variety of man-made and natural landmarks that make our region stand out. Below are some of our favorites.
The Ute, Cheyenne, and other tribes gathered at the base of Pikes Peak in what now is called Garden of the Gods Park. If you are planning a trip to Colorado Springs or are a local and haven't been to Garden of the Gods Park this is one I'd put high on the your list of places to visit, it's Rated #1 U.S Park on Tripadvisor! This geological wonder of red rocks formed millions of years ago due to upheavals in the earth's surface and erosion. There are even formations in some of the rocks, try to see if you can spot them.
Pikes Peak is another must see national historic landmark in Colorado Springs. At 14,115 feet this is on of the 53 mountains in Colorado that are 14,000 feet+ and is one of the top 100 mountains is the United States! There a few ways to achieve the top of the mountain. You can take a guided Jeep Tour or Tour by Gray Line. My personal favorite is The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. If you're feeling a little adventurous, Pikes Peak Bicycle Expeditions offers an amazing experience to take a vehicle ride up the mountain and then ride a bike down the mountain! There is also the option to drive your own vehicle, if you choose to do this make sure you make a reservation. Now if you really want a challenge you can hike this 14er! This is a hard 13.5 mile climb uphill with an elevation gain of 7,400+ feet. Make sure you do your research and prepare properly before you take on hiking Pikes Peak.
The only waterfall in Colorado on the National Geographic's list of International Waterfalls is right here in Colorado Springs! Seven Falls, also known as "The Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado" is located less than a mile from the famous Broadmoor Hotel. This natural wonder is a 224 step to the banks of the streams that feeds the falls but it's worth every step to the 181 foot drop of falling water. If your not up to taking steps the views from the bottom are just as amazing.
