Things to do in Colorado Springs this Weekend | January 4th - January 6th


With so many exciting things to do in Colorado Springs this weekend how is one to choose? 

There are many reasons as to why Colorado Springs is ranked as the Most Desirable Place to Live according to US News (Colorado Springs is #1) and Best Places to Live (Colorado Springs is ranked #2) when you combine this with facts like that Colorado has the best city park in the nation (Garden of the Gods) as well and many things to do, live events and a boatload of annual events that occur on a yearly basis (see our Guide to Annual Events for more information), additionally there are nearly endless wild and open spaces within the city in close vicinity to Colorado Springs. Additionally, Colorado Springs has plenty of museums, great schools, and attractions that bring people from all over the world.  When it comes to things to do and fun events Colorado Springs has plenty to offer.

Top things to do in Colorado Springs this weekend (January 4th, 2019 - January 6th, 2019): 


1. First Friday Downtown

When: Friday, January 4th from 5-8 PM 

Cost: Free

Where: Citizen Art Gallery at Historic City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave. Downtown Colorado Springs

Why:  First Friday Downtown Colorado Springs is a one of kind event that occurs the first Friday of every month. This event includes a guided walking tour (starts at 6 PM at 107 N. Nevada Ave.) That features Downtown Colorado Springs art galleries, restaurants and live music venues. This month's tour will be led by Ted Skroback who is a retired local news reporter who lives in Colorado Springs and will be able to provide insight into the Downtown Colorado Springs area. Some of the highlights this month include featured artists at the Citizen Art gallery at Historic Colorado Springs City Hall, The Gallery Below, Gallery 113 and The Gallery Below. There are some real gems in the line up this month. For example, at Cacao Chemistry the featured artist is Sharon Rege and her incredible impressionist oil painting will be accompanied by a chocolate tasting from master chocolatier's Travis Ashing and Sam Lang and there will even be ballroom dance lessons!


2. Ugly Sweater/Funny Hat Skate

When: Friday, January 4th, 2018 5 PM - 7 PM 2018

Where: Acacia Park

Why: Come dressed in your best ugly sweater and/or funny hat and receive $1 off admission. Acacia Park, in the heart of Downtown Colorado Springs, has its very own ice rink this winter. The rink has been a hit for both Colorado Springs visitors and residents alike. Come show your holiday spirit for this special event. This event is sponsored by UC Health. 3. Morning Hike and Campfire

When: Saturday, January 5th, 2019 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM 

Where: Fountain Creek Nature Center

Why: This is a pretty cool event. What's more fun than hiking and enjoying a warm campfire complete with smores, songs, and stories as well as being in good company? This unique event will be hard to beat. Getting outdoors in the winter months can be fun despite the cold weather. However, the forecast for this weekend looks pretty good so we will see you there! 4. Colorado Springs Fitness Expo

When: Saturday, January 5th, 2019 10 AM - 5 PM

Cost: Free

Where: Colorado Springs City Auditorium

Why: This is an event sure to impress anyone interested in their well being and fitness. With live fitness classes, local fitness trainer and even health nutrition and skincare, this event is going to be awesome. Follow through with those fitness goals you made for your new year's resolution and get after it! The Colorado Springs Fitness Expo will actually host the fitness classes so make sure to come dressed to get your sweat on. 


5. Skate with the Tigers

When: January 5th, 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Cost: $10 includes skates

Where: Acacia Park

Why: Come skate with your local star hockey team the Colorado College Tigers. CC Hockey is known around the country as one of the top college hockey programs in the nation. Come skate on the ice in the park with members from the team. What better way to spend your Saturday afternoon skating with some of the most talented athletes on ice in all of Colorado Springs. CC hockey is always on the top of the college rankings so to come see them in person is quite the treat.
