Things to do in Colorado Springs this Week | August 20th - August 26th, 2018

Colorado Springs has many fun and exciting things to do. What will you be doing this week?

Colorado Springs is a mecca for fun things to do. Whether you like the outdoor adventure, rodeos, brewfests, events for kids or concerts on a warm summer day Colorado Springs has something for everybody. Colorado Springs has fun things to do from Pueblo, nearly to Denver and everything in between you will find fun, unique and once-in-a-lifetime things such as plenty of 14ers (fourteen thousand foot mountains), state parks, rivers, lakes, and streams within a 2-hours drive. Also, don't forget about the deep history and culture in the Pikes Peak Region. From native roots with incredible things to learn about native people that lived off the land in the Pikes Peak region to the history of how gold flooded the lands with prospectors and the many things to learn about how the Centennial State has evolved throughout the years since Colorado became a state in 1876.

1. Colorado's State Fair and Rodeo

When: August 24th - September 3rd

Where1001 Beulah Avenue

Why:  The Colorado State Fair and Rodeo is an annual event in Pueblo Colorado and it starts this weekend!  There is so much going on at Colorado's State Fair it is nearly impossible to cover it all! From rodeos to concerts to monster trucks and tons of rides Colorado's State Fair has it all. Some of the most notable events include 4-H Championship show, PRCA Rodeo, and plenty of unique events and competitions like the Swifty Swine Racing Pigs. The fair will have plenty to see and do, such as concerts by Coopersonics, Oak Ridge Boys and Triple Nickel. Enjoy many other live music options at the Coke Stage and the WeatherPort Tent concerts there will truly be something for everyone. 


2. 5280 Chug Run

When: Saturday, August 25th, 2018

Cost: $39.50 Includes T-shirt, Medal, Lanyard, Mug, Beer sampling and events

Where: Pikes Peak International Raceway

Why: The 5280 Chug Run is a family-friendly run and brew festival on the raceway at the Pikes Peak International Raceway. This local event is great for all ages. From races to activities, there will be something for every member of the family to participate in. There will be competitive running races combined with Colorado brew sampling to quench your thirst. There will be a ton of activities such as face painting, magician, vote for your favorite beer, corn-hole and even drive on the raceway track with pro-driver or participate in go-kart racing!


3. International Dragon Boat Festival

When:  Saturday, August 25th

Cost: Free

Where: Prospect Lake

Why: Paul Dragon Boat racing is an ancient Chinese culture and sport that involves competition, food, entertainment and a load of excitement to watch. Come on down to Prospect Lake to join the fun by watching the competitors race their buns off and enjoy some great food and entertainment as well. It is pretty cool this event is free, you can just show up and enjoy the show and not spend a dime. Or you can enjoy some of the many food trucks present at the Food Truck Bazaar, as well as a health and wellness village complete with a marketplace, Summertime Soft Serve, and Kona Ice.


4. Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters 

When: Tuesday, August 21st, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Where: Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts

Why: Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters have teamed up with one of the most well-known Engineers and Producers in the Business: Geoff Emerick. This project has been turning heads across the nation according to critics. The Band's sound is said to be influenced by The Beatles, The Byrds, and Big Star. While delivering an American country and rockabilly sound Bill Bob Thornton is the lead vocalist AND the drummer this is the ONLY Colorado show for Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.  


5. Woodland Music Series

When: Saturday, August 25th, 1:00 PM

Where: Midland Pavillion

Why: This weeks performer at the Woodland Music Series is the Pikes Peak Brass Band. The concert takes place mid-day at the Midland Pavillion right in the middle of Woodland Park, Colorado. The Pikes Peak Brass Band is sure to put on a great show with 33 elite members. The band is a 2-Time 10-piece National Champion and are known to electrify crowds. The band also took 2nd place in the 2017 NABBA competition's top tier section. The year prior the band placed 1st so you know these 33 talented musicians will be sure to impress. This will be a show not to miss.  


6. Colorado Springs Comic Con

When: August 24th - August 26th, 2018

Where: Chapel Hills Mall

Why: Attention geeks everywhere! Colorado Springs Comic Con is coming to town! It is this weekend and includes a plethora of stuff for you to geek out on. With plenty of celebrity appearances such as Duane 'Dog' The Bounty Hunter and Beth Chapman as well as Theo Rossi, Natalia Tena, Curtis Armstrong, Rey Mysterio and Nolan North. This event has so many geek-themed things to do in Colorado Springs it is a tough decision to make. From Geek Speed Dating, to Gaming, a Kids, and a Tatoo Pavillion.
