Things to do in Colorado Springs this Weekend | August 16th - August 19th, 2018

There are some incredible things to do in Colorado Springs this weekend.

Colorado Springs always has fun things to do no matter what the time of the year is, however this time of the year the weather is absolutely amazing making all the events and things to do in Colorado Springs even better. With 300 days of sunshine of year, Colorado Springs is a sure bet for a good time most times of the year. Whether you like rodeos, brew fests, outdoor adventures or even some of the best and most unique museums in the country. Colorado Springs is sure to provide something for anyone interested in having a good time whether it is summer winter or inbetween but this week has some of the best events of the year!

1. Cheyenne Mountain State Park Adventure Day

When: August 18th 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Cost: $7 Parks Pass

WhereCheyenne Mountain State Park

Why:  Cheyenne Mountain State Park nearly put Colorado State Parks bankrupt it is so incredible!  This park has it all, from world-class facilities like RV camping with hookups to an amphitheater and many miles of trails guaranteed to satisfy all adventure thirsts. Adventure Day will have outdoor games, .22 rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, archery, birding, wildlife watching, fishing, and much much more! Witty Pork Food Truck will be there too! Also, there will be a ton of prizes and giveaways! The top prize is a Roadmaster Mountain Bike get there early to have the best chance to win!!

2. Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent

When: August 18th 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Cost: Free

Where: Pikes Peak

Why: The Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon were started in 1956 when smoking was still very prevalent throughout the country. The challenge was started by a conflict between smokers and non-smokers. Apparently, the smokers thought their lungs were just as healthy as the non-smokers! Only the Boston Marathon and Yonkers marathons have been running longer than the Pikes Peak Marathon. Those marathons barely have hills so they've got nothing on the Pikes Peak Marathons and Ascent!!

3. An Evening With Paul Reiser

When:  August 17th, 7:30 PM

Where: Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center

Cost: $43

Why: Paul Reiser is a very talented actor, writer, author and musician who has held many roles in as well as wrote and performed music in some top productions that have won Emmy's and Oscar's over his 30-some years in the business. Paul was even selected by Comedy Central and one of the "Top 100 Comedians of All Time." Plan on laughing hard as Reiser has been known to leave audiences on the floor with laughter. Events at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center are truly special. Our company has our 30th anniversary party at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and it was the perfect place for our black-tie event.

4. University Village Summer Concert Series

When: August 17th, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Where: University Village Shopping Center

Why: This week University Village Shopping Center summer concert series will feature Buddy Whittington & The Atomic Fireballs. Buddy and his band are considered Americana, Blues, and Country. They are known for their killer vocals combined with an array of country and rock with a full instrumental line up from sax to a steel guitar and keyboard. This band has it all and makes a great outing for the family looking to have a fun time before or after getting a bite to eat at one of the great restaurants in the shopping center or go make your wife and/or family happy with some great shopping in the University Village Shopping Center.

5. Pickin' on the Divide

When: Saturday, August 18th, 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM

Where: Limbach Park in Palmer Lake

Why: Pickin' is referring to the unique sound of bluegrass music! This means the fiddle, five-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, and upright or string bass. All of these "pickin" instruments together make an incredible hoe-down, scooting and dancing that focuses on moves below the waist and looks similar to square dancing. This awesome day of Bluegrass music starts with Tenderfoot Bluegrass at 11:00 AM then Wirewood Station at 12:15 PM followed by Ashtonz at 1:50 PM and Flying W Wranglers at 3:25 PM. The headlining act is Grass it Up at 5:00 PM.
