Things to do in Colorado Springs this Week | October 9th, 2018 - October 14th, 2018

With so many fun and exciting things to do in Colorado Springs how is one to decide?

There are many reasons Colorado Springs was voted Most Desirable Place to Live according to US News (Colorado Springs is #1) and Best Places to Live while one of those factors is the incredible amount of fun and exciting things to do in this great city of ours. Every season throughout the year provides a wealth of new opportunities. Some being annual events (see our Guide to Annual Events for more information), and some being unique one-of-a-kind events, either way, Colorado Springs has it all. This time of year is one of our favorites. With the changing colors of the leaves, (see our post on Top Places to View Fall Colors Around Colorado Springs) the cooler temperatures and that special smell that is brisk, fresh and makes it feel like winter is coming. 

Here are our top things to do in Colorado Springs this week: 


1. Gold Hill Mesa Fall Harvest Fest

When: Saturday, October 13th 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Cost: Free

Where: Gold Hill Mesa Community Center

Why: Come to Gold Hill Mesa to see the beautiful tree-lined streets light up with fall colors while enjoying a free live concert by Thunder and Rain a Rocky Mountain Americana band. The festival includes fun and exciting fall-themed things to do such as a pumpkin patch, pony rides, face painting, and a petting zoo. There will be food vendors and craft vendors as well serving up fall-themed libations and crafts. The coolest thing about this event is that the proceeds will go towards The Bear Creek Nature Center so bring some cash to purchase food, drinks and crafts from vendors on site. 2. 5K Survivors' Run & Walk

When: Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at 9:00 AM

Cost: $10 per runner 

Where: America the Beautiful Park

Why: TESSA was started in 1977 due to the high amount of women in Colorado Springs threatened or assaulted by partners. Domestic violence is a very difficult thing for victims to deal with and assistance and support are in high demand. TESSA provides a Safehouse, Victim Advocacy, Counseling and Children's Programs, 24/7 Safeline and community outreach and education. The 5K run benefits these efforts so TESSA can continue to provide these much needed services to the community. The run includes a race t-shirt and a bag of schwag. There will be many fun things to do at the event aside from running a 5K. There will be live entertainment, community vendors and a some food trucks! Cross your fingers the weather will clear up! 3. Cool Science Carnival Day

When: October 13th, 2018 10:00AM - 4:00 PM

Cost: Free (including parking)

Where: University of Colorado, Colorado Springs

Why: This event is so cool. Imagine your kid's face's lighting up at the incredible feats of hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) education brought to you by some of the most talents and knowledgeable scientists in  Colorado Springs. The day will be filled with all sorts of fun and exciting things like live demonstrations, laboratory tours, drones, animals, rockets and event exhibits for kids to visit. The event is targeted at primarily kids K-8th grades. This event is the kick-off event for the week-long Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival which has a number of great events all week long. 4. Intro To Mountain Biking

When: October 14th, 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Where: Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Why: This class will teach you how to mountain bike and more! Starting with bikes, gear, and techniques and ending with a full hands-on lesson navigating trails, braking, climbing descending and even communication skills and mountain biking trail etiquette. The goal of the class will be to keep multi-use trails open and safe for everyone. The class will end with a trail ride and if you don't have a bike, no worries! The class provides bikes for at no additional charge and even learn how to find local areas where you can start to refine your mountain bike sending skills. Send it bro!!! 5. Reel Big Fish at The Black Sheep

When: Wednesday, October 10th, 6:30 PM 

Cost: $22.50 - $25.00

Where: The Black Sheep 

Why: Reel Big Fish became mainstream famous with their 1997 single "Sell Out." Their ska-punk style has attracted a cult following for the last 20 years and they continue to rock hard for crowds across the nation. This concert will be quite the experience with also popular Ballyhoo! who is considered to be "America's Favorite-feel-good-party-band" with fun and powerful songs that are fresh and unique.
