Red Rock Canyon Open Space | Colorado Springs Real Estate
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is an incredible asset for any Colorado Springs resident but especially those who own Colorado Springs Real Estate. This 1,474-acre Colorado Springs City Park is an exceptional place to hike, mountain bike, trail-run, and watch wildlife. The picturesque hogback rock formations offer both incredible views and challenging hiking. The sandstone rocks are also known as fount formations and essentially are an extension of the world-famous Garden of the Gods to the North. Red Rock Canyon Open Space has an interesting backstory. The Canyon was once a heavily used industrial site that had quarries, gravel pits, a landfill, and even a gold refining mill. Colorado Springs Parks and Rec did an incredible job reclaiming this industrial area by building an intricate set of trails that snake through the various canyons and sandstone rocks.
Why Red Rocks Canyon Open Space?
Dog Off-Leash Areas - There are two off-leash dog trails near the main entrance to Red Rock Canyon Open Space. If you are looking for a challenge this trail is sure to deliver.
Red Rock Canyon Pond - This unique riparian area has been restored to provide wetland habitat for migratory birds and waterfowl. This is a really special and cool thing to have right in the middle of this amazing open space. Climbers must register at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center and climbers are required to climb on established routes as there is a process to create a new route. Thanks to great organizations like Pikes Pike Climbers Alliance and Friends of Red Rock Canyon Open Space for helping to advocate for the park and its users.
Free Ride Bike Park - The Free Ride Bike Park is a great asset for all levels of mountain bikers. There is a beginner park which includes a skills development area with stunts geared towards beginners.
