Colorado Springs Ranked as the Most Desirable Place to Live

There are more than just a few reasons we love living in Colorado Springs

U.S. News & World Report agrees with us. A study recently conducted by U.S. News & World Report ranks Colorado Springs as the most desirable place to live in the nation. The news outlet has two separate lists. One is The Best Places, in which Colorado Springs Ranks #2. The Best Places list includes factors such as job market, high quality of life and good value. This new list is "The Most Desirable Place" to live which are the places where people "would live if they could" according to U.S. News & World Report.

Colorado Springs beat out places like Portland Oregon, San Diego California, Honolulu Hawaii and Seattle. We asked a few of our friends and clients what they like most about living here and this is what they love most.

"I just love living in a place where I know my kids are going to top-ranked schools, and I can do things you can't anywhere else. There are not many places you can live where you can summit a fourteener in the morning and play golf in the afternoon." Said Erik Anderson MD, a local ophthalmologist, expert cataract surgeon, father of two and avid outdoorsman. "It feels really good living in a place where you are surrounded by healthy minded people who love the outdoors and are family oriented. There aren't many places that can top Colorado Springs and you really can't ask for much more out of your home city." Anderson said with a smile on his face. "There are just so many fun things to do in Colorado Springs, from world-class parks and outdoor spaces to being surrounded by top athletes who train here. Colorado Springs is hard to beat for people who love getting outside and are focused on their health and wellness," said Anderson.

"Colorado Springs is a great place to raise a family. We love it here because we can walk down the street and find ourselves at a world-class park." Said Jim Fox, Director of Marketing at USA Swimming. "I grew up here, and I won't be leaving anytime soon. Colorado Springs is incredible because I know my family will thrive here and I know we are lucky to live in such an amazing place. From the unique breweries, restaurants, and bars to the great things the city is doing with the vibrant downtown area and attractions Colorado Springs is simply awesome."

"Colorado Springs has been my home since I was 4 years old and there is a reason my family has not left the Pikes Peak region since. We love it here." Said Darren Sharp of Sharp General Contractors. "It is a superb place to raise a family and the access to the outdoors is incredible. We spend most of our free time in the mountains close to Colorado Springs whether it is skiing in the winters, hunting in the fall or fishing in the summer."

Colorado Springs has been growing at a rapid pace. In the last 7 years, the city has seen a growth rate of more than 12 percent, according to U.S. Census Bureau. The city's residents are vested in the city as well. In November, voters approved an estimated $17 million annually in the city's general fund to help improve the city's floodwater and stormwater system which, on occasion, has been releasing pollutants in cities that reside downstream. These funds can be directed towards many things that help strengthen the city such as city employees' salaries, transportation services, and the funds can even be used to hire more police officers and firefighters.

Colorado Springs is even following the lead of bigger cities dedication to walkability and rideability by launching the Pike Ride program which provides hundreds of smart bicycles which are loaded with GPS, timers and are available for rent by anyone at rental stations strategically placed throughout the city. Akin to the B-cycle program in Denver and Boulder, which has been a huge success, this program is aimed at allowing residents and tourists alike, the ability to access most of the city on foot and on two wheels.

Additionally, the job market in Colorado Springs is very strong. The job market in Colorado Springs is tied for 5th best in the nation, according to ManpowerGroup, who conducted a survey in the third quarter of this year. Denver is the only other Colorado city in the survey, ranked 19th while Colorado Springs unemployment rate was at 3.2% which is a signal that the economy in Colorado Springs is expanding.
