Are you looking to visit Colorado in December?
With so many things to do all year long there's a huge draw to the area and one reason why so many people are seeking out Colorado Springs real estate for permanent residences & vacation homes.
Christmas and Colorado are often thought of together and for good reason! With the snow capped Rocky Mountains and all the small towns in Colorado you can feel like you are in a Hallmark Christmas movie! Here are a few places to visit and things to do in Colorado for December.
What better way to get in the Holiday Spirit than to visit The North Pole Santa's Workshop! Located in Cascade Colorado just 10 miles west of Colorado Springs at the foot of Pikes Peak. The North Pole Santa's Workshop is a true "mountain park" that carries the magic of Christmas. Plan to spend a family fun day with two dozen unique rides, Elmer the Elf show, glass blowers creating one of a kind ornaments before your eyes, an array of sweet treats and food, seven shops, and of course you have to visit Santa!
Grab a coffee or hot chocolate and plan your drive around Colorado Springs to see over 100 Christmas Light Displays. The Colorado Springs Christmas Lights Guide features Lights from The Broadmoor Resort and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to your local neighbor's displays. The map provided even gives coffee shops that are around and a Christmas music playlist!
Breckenridge is known for it's world class skiing but is transformed into a scene from a Christmas movie during the holidays. The historic downtown is decorated with more than 13,000 feet and 250,000 LED holiday lights. Dining in Breckenridge is always special but during the holidays there's something a little extra special so advanced reservations are encouraged. Wanting to experience the holidays with some winter outdoor adventures there are plenty options. Sledding and Sleigh Rides sound pretty fun! There are also Nordic Snowcat Adventures, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, and Snowmobling to name a few.
If you have not heard or seen the Christmas Mountain in Salida this small town is something to put on your list anytime of the year but especially during the holiday season. The town is not only decorated but on Tenderfoot Mountain there is a 750 foot Christmas tree outlined with 4,500 brightly colored LED bulbs (referred to as the Christmas Mountain)! Every year the Friday after Thanksgiving the City's annual Parade of Lights starts off the holiday season and is followed by the much anticipated tree lighting and firework show.
The quaint town of Georgetown is literally out of a Christmas movie. In the 1980s The Christmas Gift was filmed in the streets of historic Georgetown starring John Denver. The main attraction during the holiday season is The Georgetown Christmas Market which is regularly ranked the Top 20 Best Christmas Markets in the United States. The market usually takes place the first two weekends in December so plan your visit for next year! There are still plenty of activities during December if you missed the market this year.
Glenwood Springs has been named "feels like you're in a Hallmark Christmas" in a few articles as well as one of the most magnificent Gingerbread displays and prettiest places to visit in the winter. The festivities begin the day after Thanksgiving and continue until New Year's Day. There's a Holiday Decorating Contest that businesses and community members can participate in so I am sure seeing the Christmas decorations at night are pretty awesome on top of the town already being decorated. Hotel Colorado is one to put on your list as it has over half a million lights! There are so many activities during the Holiday Season there is a Winter Wonderland Calendar of Events. There are Holidays Shows, Gingerbread Competition, Arts and Crafts Market, and even a swim with Santa to name a few.
